Evolving Together
Join a community exploring spiritual growth and transformation practices.
We meet in Newcastle, Australia for events. Online events coming soon!

What is Evolutionary Spirituality?
Humanity has developed numerous spiritual traditions, from Buddhism, to Christianity, to Shamanism and so forth.
However, many of these traditions emerged hundreds of years ago, before the advent of modern scientific knowledge. At the time of the Buddha and Jesus, we still thought the earth was flat!
Now, with the discovery of modern evolutionary theory, some have suggested that it is time for us to reframe our understanding of these spiritual traditions.
From this perspective, the world's spiritual traditions may be appreciated as treasure troves of wisdom regarding how to evolve the human mind and soul.
Evolutionary Spirituality is integrative as it involves exploring various ancient and modern traditions, with the overarching goal of evolving ourselves, our relationships and our world.

Our Tradition
Bhagavan Nityananda of Ganeshpuri
Nityananda was a mysterious Hindu saint renowned for his powerful spiritual transmission. His lineage has connections to the yogic tradition of Kashmir Shaivism.

Ken Wilber & Integral Theory
Ken is a philosopher who created a comprehensive framework of human development. This framework helps us understand spiritual lineages in evolutionary terms and demonstrates strengths and limitations of different approaches.
Humanity has evolved countless transformative modalities. We believe that each has its own unique strengths which can be woven together.
All Humanity's Transformative Lineages!

Spiritual P-Plates
The world's contemplative lineages are treasure troves of wisdom! However, they also, at times, have had blindspots that have caused people harm.
For this reason, we recommend that everyone coming along to our events learn some safety and ethics from psychology before diving deeper into spiritual traditions or sharing them with others.
Before we get a license to drive a car, we first need training to ensure our safety and the safety of others on the road. We consider learning about safety and ethics in the spiritual context to be a little like earning our “spiritual p-plates”.
Our list of recommended readings is here.
Please also note that the Centre provides programs and information for general educational and spiritual-development purposes only. It is not intended as psychological advice, mental health treatment, or a substitute for professional care.
About Us

Hi there! My name is Jordan Bakker. I started up the Centre for Evolutionary Spirituality in 2025.
Here's a little about me and my own journey...
I've been meditating daily for over 15 years, completed several meditation retreats, and lived in an ashram for over 2 years. My teachers and mentors have included Daniel P. Brown, Geshe Sonam and Nigel Denning of the Bon tradition, and Terry Patten for integral theory and spirituality. Aside from meditation, some of my core practices have included chanting, ecstatic dance, self-inquiry, and service.
A core passion in my life is building community and sharing the ideas and skills of spiritual traditions! In 2018, I started Integral Melbourne, a community which hosted 100+ events.
I'm currently working on a number of projects including writing journal articles on an integrative model of therapy as well as an integrative model of leadership.
I've got a background working in human rights and climate change, school teaching and school transformation work, and other roles in mental health fields. I've got a Masters of Teaching (Secondary) and I'm currently working on a second Masters.
I hope to meet you some time soon!
